You carry a portal to the entire adult industry in your pocket. If you are serious about quitting, you need to close that portal. Here is how to set up robust restrictions on your phone right now, for free.

For iPhone (iOS) Users

Apple has powerful built-in tools, but they are hidden under "Screen Time."

  1. Go to Settings -> Screen Time.
  2. Turn on "Content & Privacy Restrictions".
  3. Tap "Content Restrictions" -> "Web Content".
  4. Select "Limit Adult Websites".
    • Effect: This automatically filters out thousands of known adult sites.
    • Pro Move: You can also add specific sites to the "Never Allow" list if you have specific problem sites.
  5. The "Safety Lock":
    • Go back to the main Screen Time menu.
    • Tap "Lock Screen Time Settings" (or "Use Screen Time Passcode").
    • CRITICAL STEP: Do not set the code yourself. Ask a friend, partner, or parent to type in a 4-digit code and not tell you. If you know the code, you will use it at 2 AM.

For Android Users

Android is more open, which means you have more options but also more loopholes.

  1. Google Family Link:
    • This is the most robust method. Have a friend create a "Parent" account and link your account as a "Child" (even if you are an adult).
    • They can block Chrome incognito mode and block specific apps/sites remotely.
  2. Configure DNS (Network Level):
    • Go to Settings -> Network & Internet -> Private DNS.
    • Select "Private DNS provider hostname."
    • Enter: family.cloudflare-dns.com (Cloudflare’s family filter) or adult-filter-dns.cleanbrowsing.org.
    • Effect: This blocks adult sites at the internet connection level.

Why This Isn't Enough

Setting these restrictions is a great "Phase 1." But every addict knows: If you want to view it, you will find a way around the filter. You will find a proxy site. You will use a different device. You will guess the password.

That is why restrictions are only 10% of the battle. The other 90% is changing your mindset using a dedicated recovery system like Essence. Lock the door, yes. But then go do the work to make sure you stop trying to open it.
